Repeated head trauma in combat sports leads to serious health issues, reducing athletes' longevity and limiting the growth of connected industries. Many sports have rules designed to protect competitors, but they often go unenforced. Limberg Technologies is developing a wearable sensor that attaches to any fighter's headgear. When the fighter is hit too hard, the device glows red, and when the fighter is hit hard enough to potentially cause a concussion, the device begins blinking red. The glowing signal tells fighters, coaches, and referees to de-escalate the situation. The blinking alert indicates that the fighter should seek medical evaluation. Limberg Technologies aims to get this technology into the hands of combat sport athletes everywhere, creating safer sports and a lower barrier to entry for children and adults that are hesitant to try combat sports due to head trauma concerns.
