The goal of Minokawa Innovations is to advance technology in emergency medicine for better patient outcomes.We are currently working on an innovative new 'bag valve mask' (BVM) device that will make manual ventilation in emergency situations easier and more effective. BVMs are a critical tool in front line emergency medicine, however, they are manual devices and their use requires precise control and timing by the operator. As a result errors involving BVM use are common especially in high stress situations. Our goal is to create an assisted BVM device with digital readings for important metrics such as pressure, CO2 and provide audio/visual feedback so the operator can adjust in case of any deviations. This will reduce the cognitive load for the operator and ensure that the patient is always effectively ventilated by the BVM, avoiding possible issues such as hyperventilation or gastric insufflation.
